Antique Modern Abstract House
In the heart of Chicago’s vibrant South Loop, I had the pleasure of designing a loft space that truly reflects the soul of its dweller, Mr. N a lover of the arts and community life. I took this nineteenth-century space, steeped in the area’s printing heritage, and reimagined it for modern living with a twist of antique allure.
Fusing Mr. N’s passion for Abstract Expressionism with his functional needs, I handpicked antique and transitional furniture, enveloping them in a palette of deep greens and earth tones. My choices for textures natural fabrics, suede, and leather add layers of warmth and sophistication.
Every room is curated to serve as a canvas for his abstract art collection, echoing the creativity of De Kooning and Pollock. I crafted the living areas to be open yet intimate, creating perfect vignettes for his cherished gatherings. The office nook is not only a study space but also an artist’s retreat, complete with an easel for spontaneous creativity.
This project was all about balancing aesthetics with practicality incorporating pet-friendly pieces, optimizing for storage, and showcasing his wine collection elegantly. It was a joy to design a space where history, personal style, and functionality converge seamlessly.
